Sotheby’s 2012 Sotheby’s European Watch Auction Exceeds $ 30.3 Million

A group of Patek Philippe antique watches shined in the auction and achieved the highest price on the day. A very rare first waterproof watch with the number 2438-1 (Lot 156), sold for CHF 278,500 (USD 293,299), exceeding the pre-auction estimate of CHF 200,000-300,000 (USD 214,000-321,000) . This exquisite center seconds 18K gold moon phase watch was manufactured in 1958 and is sold by Tiffany & CO Tiffany.
Other highlights in this auction include an exquisite Patek Philippe watch 530 dating back to about 1940 in 18K yellow gold (lot 256). Nearly three times the previous estimate; and another 3448 white gold watch, manufactured in 1977, sold for CHF 242,500 (USD 255,386), with an estimated price of CHF 180,000-250,000 (USD 193,000-267,000).
Probably the most attractive on the market in recent years, number 3450, a very delicate gold automatic perpetual calendar watch, produced around 1985 (lot 157), with almost no wear and tear, and sold for 182,500 Swiss francs ($ 192,198) ), Slightly higher than its higher valuation of 120,000-180,000 Swiss francs ($ 129,000-193,000).
Vacheron Constantin, one of the world’s oldest fine watch manufacturers, also presented precious antique watches at this auction. Vacheron Constantin’s Minute Repeater is a representative of complex functions. Lots include the first famous watch number 4261 produced by the Geneva watchmaker. Made in 1943, this extremely rare 18K rose gold repeater (Lot 248) was sold for CHF 242,500 (USD 255,386), far exceeding its estimated value (estimated CHF 130,000-150,000 / USD 139,000-161,000).
